My name is Vanessa Tippol. I have 3 sisters, and I am the oldest. I am also the first one to graduate from a university. My parents are from El Salvador, and I was born here in Dallas. I am the first generation to be born here in the United States, and I am proud to be a part of this nation. As far as my education goes, I am majoring in ALL-Level Kinesiology. I want to be a Physical Education Teacher because my passion is to help students stay active their whole lives. I will start my residency in the fall, and I am so excited to start my career.
My vision of technology in the Physical Education classroom is active gaming. Children are already surrounded with technology, so you add physical activity and make the students heart rates go up while they are having fun. They will get a great workout without even realizing it. Lisa Hansen the co-director of the active research lab at the University of South Florida says that kids are going to be in front of a screen, but the difference is students are going to active. Right now 1500 schools are using some type of active gaming. Another thing we can do is blogging in which we can talk about nutrition, physical activity, physical education, and so many other topics. Technology is all around us, and we need to hop on the bandwagon and not be closed minded.
My goals for this class are: to read the whole book, make an A in the class, but most importantly I want to learn as much as I can about technology. I am a little behind as far as blogging is concerned. I have never blogged before, and I am excited. My goal is to learn something from every chapter, and apply it to my life and pass on the knowledge to everyone that is not familiar with technological advances. I am working with students, so I want to make them wiser. I want to get them prepared because when the next generation comes in they will bring new technologies. I want to teach my students to be open minded, to be open to new technologies and concepts so they can keep up and not get left behind.
