Fair Use

Fair use allows limited duplication of copyrighted material. I learned in section 107 of Title 17 of the 1976 Copyright Act, that under certain circumstances, teachers are allowed to duplicate copyrighted material. Although this is useful to teachers we must be careful, because the rules are clearly stated and one mistake could cost us dearly.

I loved the two hand outs that I printed called Copyright and Fair Use Guidelines for Teachers. This helps us in the future so as teachers what can we do under the law. I want to be safe and follow the guidelines closely. With these handouts, and some research on the internet, you can learn all about fair use and: printed materials, photographs, music, videos, internet, and television.

There is so much to learn, and I don’t want to make a mistake just because I didn’t do my research. The last thing I want to is get in trouble with the law, and ruin my career. The fair use doctrine, I believe is very generous. I hope to study it more closely, and pass this knowledge on to my future co-workers. We should always be respectful to the owners of copyrights, and follow the fair use guidelines.
